This is where you can control the general behavior of SurfaceInterval. This is actually
a "catch-all" panel which contains those preferences which do not fit into easily defined categories.
Remember tab selection
The main window uses a tabbed interface for some dive entry items. This is done to reduce clutter in the user interface, and to allow additional dive characteristics to be displayed without using
up excessive screen real-estate. As you learn to use SurfaceInterval, you may develop a preference as to which tab's contents you'd like displayed each time SurfaceInterval is run. Select the "Remember tab selection" checkbox, to have SurfaceInterval remember the tab that was selected the last time you exited
SurfaceInterval and to redisplay that same tab at the start of subsequent sessions.
Enable contextual help
SurfaceInterval provides extensive contextual help which is turned on by default. When contextual help is enabled, hovering the mouse over most control elements for > 1 second will produce a small text box describing that control's use. Once you've familiarized yourself with SurfaceInterval, you may wish to turn off contextual help by de-selecting the "Enable contextual help" checkbox.
Default sort order
Dives are sorted chronologically. You can select whether the newest or oldest dive appears at the top.
Units
Select whether numerical values are displayed in Metric or Imperial units of measurement.
Check online for updates at application start
Select this if you want surface interval to check for a newer version when you first run the application.
If you have a slow or no, internet connection, you may want to turn this off. You can select the
"Check for updates..." menu item under the SurfaceInterval menu at any time, regardless of this setting.
